|I waited patiently for the Lord to help me, and he turned to me and heard my cry. 2
He lifted me out of the pit of despair, out of the mud and the mire. He set my feet on solid ground and steadied me as I walked along.|

Synopsis: As Christians, we must be the ones who offer meaningful help and
support in our world. It is wrong for us not to. The Bystander Effect is a human trait.
One scientist said that most of us will succumb to this effect. But we Christians must
overcome our human traits, because Jesus, in the Sermon on the Mount, is calling us to
be more than human. This hunger and thirst for God and for spiritual things are really a
gif. We are not conditioned to think of hunger or thirst as gifs or blessings. If we were
not hungry for God, we would not seek Him. If we were not thirsty for spiritual
fulfillment, we would not seek it. Let’s give thanks for a hunger and thirst that drives
us into the presence of God.
